Fan Daniel Hernández uses passion for football as driving force in cancer battle

Tuesday, February 4th is World Cancer Day, and in Spain around 275,000 new cases of the disease are detected each year, with approximately 1.5 million people affected. One cancer survivor is Daniel Hernández, a Valencia CF fan.
Diagnosed with a synovial sarcoma ten years ago, Daniel had to go through nine gruelling chemotherapy sessions, and drew the strength to battle the illness from his family and watching his favourite team in action.
"Everybody needs a driving force in their life, a reason to fight every day and to enjoy themselves, despite having cancer," he told VCF Media. "There are moments that you enjoy, and Valencia CF is the driving force for many people. It helped me a lot."
Daniel had to have his leg amputated below the knee, and has used a prothesis for the last six months. In spite of the hard times, he and many others who have been diagnosed with cancer fight tirelessly to overcome it.
The dedicated Valencia CF fan visited Mestalla and spoke to VCF Media on how he made it through some difficult moments in his life.
